Bonnie Edwards, MSW, LICSW

Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I believe that taking the first step by engaging in counseling is not a sign of weakness but of personal strength. It is my role as a therapist and counselor in Lakewood WA is to assist you in finding your personal strengths and helping you overcome life’s challenges.

I am passionate about and experienced in working with older adults and their family members.
I also enjoy working with children struggling to navigate our educational system.

Over the years, I have discovered that there are very few individuals who have at some point in their life not faced a major set-back. Most of us have experienced some form of traumatic event or been confused or overwhelmed when attempting to figure out what path to take when life becomes hard. It is through developing new skills and through speaking with a qualified therapist, that personal growth happens and you become a stronger, more self-sufficient individual.

I am Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington. Since receiving my MSW in 2008, I have worked with all age groups. I have worked with children and youth who were previously victims of abuse and have demonstrated severe emotional and behavioral challenges.

I have advocated for children and adults who have been diagnosed with some form of a disability, those with significant and enduring mental health challenges and with elderly clients who have developed a chronic or life threatening medical issue, who struggle to come to terms with this significant life change.

I hold a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from Western Washington University. From 1997 thru 2005 I worked as a Special Education Teacher and then went back to college to obtain my Master of Social Work degree in 2008. I have worked in the fields of education, in mental health as a therapist, and as a social worker with the Division of Children and Family Services.

I believe that my job is not only to provide counseling to you an your family, but to help you discover your own personal strengths, your own path to guide the way in overcoming life’s challenges. I want to help you not fall back into old patterns of behavior which may result in negative consequences, but find your way out… together. I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapeutic Methods. I believe that you are your own expert on your life and what works well for you. I will partner with you in finding wellness and feeling better.

Stephanie Perceful, MA, LMHCA, MHP

Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate, Mental Health Professional
With my Spanish speaking skills, I have successfully conducted both counseling in Spanish and in English. (Se habla espanol!)
I believe that removing shame is the key to helping clients make personal changes, and thus approach my counseling work using a strength based model and hold all my clients in positive regard. Entering into counseling work is a brave step, and a positive therapeutic relationship without judgement is what is necessary for change and growth.

I received my graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Martins Masters in Counseling program, and currently hold a LMHCA and MHP license. I have years of professional experience helping children and their families in a clinical setting.

As a counselor, I seek to hold space for you as the client to heal outdated feelings and thought patterns as they make space for new ways of relating to the world around them. By treating the root causes of emotional and cognitive dysfunction, I find that outdated thinking and behavior patterns fall away once developmental and relational traumas are healed within the therapeutic alliance. I do this work through using sand tray and expressive therapy, play therapy with children, teaching the client about Neurobiology, using Cognitive Restructuring around existing negative beliefs, and incorporating mindfulness techniques.

I have volunteer experience and training around supporting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. I value highly multiculturalism and diversity, and am sensitive to issues of oppression around both gender and ethnicity. I am an ally to the LGBTQ community. As an avid traveler and Latin dance instructor, I have a great respect and love for Latino communities, and have been fortunate enough to be able to practice my Spanish enough to be considered fluent.

Matthew Cruvant, MA, LMHC

Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
I am grateful to serve individuals and families taking courageous steps toward achieving wellness. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Lakewood & Tacoma WA. If you are seeking a male therapist in Lakewood WA, I may be the perfect fit for you.

My job is to be a helpful guide, adviser, therapist, or coach. If you’re here, it means you want to improve yourself and I will do the best I can to help with that.

I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Seattle University and more than 10 years of experiences working with families in a therapeutic setting. I am experienced in providing individual and group counseling for all ages, genders, and backgrounds. I have nearly a decade of experience with counseling children, adolescents, adults, groups, families, and couples.

I view counseling as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery within the context of a safe, supportive, and therapeutic relationship. My philosophical approach to counseling is through Existential Phenomenology. Existential phenomenology is a humanistic approach focusing on the lived experience and the felt-sense. Incorporating more traditional approaches — such as Cognitive/Behavioral psychology — I work collaboratively with you to identify how cognition (i.e., thoughts and beliefs) impacts your feelings and behaviors. Evidenced based practices are also utilized to develop strength based approaches to positive change. I am also trained in mental health assessments, chemical dependency assessments, parenting assessments, and family assessments. These are used as necessary to help better identify your individual and family’s strengths.

As a US Veteran, I have been successful working with active military, reservists and other veterans in accessing military benefits and services. As a husband, and father of 3 children, I draw upon my own experiences to relate with you and your family, as I help you to navigate the various community resources and systems.

Sayaka Ashe, MA, MHP, LMHC

Japanese Speaking Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
I am a Japanese speaking therapist or counselor. I immigrated to US about 10 years ago. I can understand minority’s feeling, also provide a different perspective and a different point of view or different world view in our work together.

I am grateful to serve individuals and families taking courageous steps toward achieving wellness. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). If you are seeking a female therapist in Lakewood WA, who also happens to be of Japanese origin, I may be the perfect fit for you. I enjoy working with woman ages 20+ on concerns around anxiety, depression, trauma… etc. as well as those who are seeking a Japanese speaking therapist.

I believe we all experience some level of cognitive or thought distortion, which often cause emotional struggles in our lives. I practice Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to help you get unstuck from negative or unhelpful thoughts. I aim to help you move on to your goal (what you want, instead of what you need or should). MBCT is working well for not only thought patterns, but also the associated emotional disturbance as well, such as depression, anxiety, and other emotional struggles.

I have been working for a non profit psychiatric organization for over 5 years. I have worked with children and adolescents as well as their families. I also have extensive experience working with adults. I look at therapy as riding with people on their journeys. I, as a therapist, guide and help you choose a least harmful course for your journey, and the best course for that moment.

Modalities: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Play Therapy for children, Meditation, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and Group Therapy techniques.

Michelle Klekota-Chisholm, MA, LMHC, Owner

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Emotionally Focused Couples & Family Therapist
I believe therapy is helpful for all of us, regardless of our place in life.  Choosing to participate in individual counseling or family therapy does not mean ‘you have problems,’ to me it means ‘you want to make a change.’ I truly believe there is no shame in wanting to create a better life for yourself or your family.  Choosing to find a counseling center and enter therapy can happen at any point in life: you may simply be dissatisfied with your current situation and need a change, or perhaps want to work on a specific goal or relational goal.  Therapy can often be about taking a deeper look at patterns of old behavior and letting go.  I believe it is an honor to be part of that growth and change process.

“A unique approach to fostering hope and healthy relationships”. As a Counselor Lakewood WA, I do my very best to partner with my clients in their emotional work. To walk with you in the work we do together offering hope along the sometimes lonely and scary path of change.  It has been said before, that close relationships are what we all need to feel happy, be-well, and thrive in this human existence.  I hold this idea as true and am committed to helping you create healthy close relationships for yourself and your family.

Mission: In one word, Growth.  Therapy is a growth process through which I aim to ‘be with’ my clients, to enter their world and perhaps shine a light on something helpful to them.  I aim to illuminate what wasn’t seen before and to allow things to be seen differently. I aim to help clients meet their personal goals.  We could be working on decreasing depression, anxiety, anger management, or just general well-being.  Ultimately healing and growing into the person they long to be, making small changes along the way towards creating the life they truly want to have.
