About Me
I’m grateful to serve individuals and families taking courageous steps toward achieving wellness. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Lakewood & Tacoma, WA, offering telehealth services. If you’re looking to find a therapist in Tacoma, Washington, and are seeking a seasoned male therapist in the area, I may be the perfect fit for you. I specialize in therapy for adults and also work with families.
My role is to be a helpful guide, advisor, therapist, and coach. If you’re here, it means you want to improve yourself, and I’m dedicated to helping you do just that.
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Seattle University and have over 10 years of experience working with families in a therapeutic setting. I’m experienced in providing individual and group counseling for all ages, genders, and backgrounds, including children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
I believe counseling is an opportunity for growth and self-discovery within a safe, supportive, and therapeutic relationship. My philosophical approach is rooted in Existential Phenomenology, a humanistic approach focusing on lived experience and the felt-sense. I also integrate traditional approaches like Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy (CBT), working collaboratively with you to identify how your thoughts and beliefs impact your feelings and behaviors. I utilize evidence-based practices and strength-based approaches to facilitate positive change. I’m also trained in various assessments, including mental health, chemical dependency, parenting, and family assessments, to better understand your individual and family’s strengths and needs.
As a US Veteran, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by active military, reservists, and veterans, including transitions, separations, and the complexities of military life. As a husband and father of three, I draw upon both my professional training and personal experiences to connect with you and your family, helping you navigate community resources and systems. I also have extensive experience working with governmental agencies (DSHS, DCFS, courts, and ICW), and can help you understand the processes and terminology involved.
Some of Matthew’s Recent Training Highlights:
Culture and the Psychosocial Implications of Socioeconomic Position (Parts 1 & 2): Culture and Social Determinants of Health; Social Construction in Assessment and Treatment
