More About Tricare-Covered Therapy at LCFC
Lakewood Child and Family Counseling is a small, female-owned, veteran-operated telehealth practice based in Washington State. We provide secure online therapy for adults across the state, and we’re in-network with Tricare Prime, Tricare Select, and the VA.
Through one-on-one sessions with a licensed Washington counselor, you’ll work on the things you’re actually carrying, not just symptoms, but the underlying patterns. Our work is thoughtful, personalized, and focused on practical strategies that fit your real life, whether that’s deployment cycles, PCS moves, post-service transition, or the invisible weight of holding it all together.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Each session is collaborative and focused on helping you build resilience, reduce overwhelm, and move through your life with more clarity and control.
You’ll get help with:
- Anxiety, overwhelm, and racing thoughts
- PTSD, CPTSD, trauma, and stress responses (combat-related, MST, accidents, childhood)
- Burnout; for service members, spouses, providers, and caregivers
- Depression, including post-deployment and post-PCS depression
- Military spouse stress, solo parenting, and identity shifts
- Transition, retirement, and civilian re-entry
- ADHD and neurodivergence (including adults who’ve been masking for years)
- Grief, loss, and ambiguous loss common in military life
- Relationship strain and reconnection after deployment
No prior therapy experience is needed. Come as you are, and we’ll start from there.

Meet Your Therapists
Licensed Washington Counselors Who Understand Military Life
Our team includes therapists who personally understand military culture, deployment, PCS moves, and the rhythm of “I’m fine” that doesn’t always mean fine. As a veteran-operated practice, we built LCFC with military families in mind. Our counselors are trained in trauma-informed care, somatic and nervous system-informed approaches, and neurodivergent-affirming therapy. We work with active duty members, spouses, dependents, retirees, and veterans across all branches.

Tricare Therapy FAQs
Do I need a referral from my PCM to see you with Tricare Prime?
For outpatient mental health care, most Active Duty Tricare Prime enrollees will need a referral. Tricare dependents can self-refer to in-network providers like us. We’ll verify your specific situation before your first session, just reach out and we’ll handle the benefits check for you.
Does Tricare Select require a referral?
No. Tricare Select members can see any in-network provider without a referral. Since we’re in-network, you’re covered.
What’s the copay for Tricare therapy online?
Copays depend on your enrollment category and your specific plan. Most members pay a modest copay per session for behavioral health telehealth.
Is online therapy covered the same as in-person under Tricare?
Yes. Tricare covers behavioral health telehealth for Prime and Select members at the same rate as in-person care.
Can my spouse or dependent use Tricare to see one of your therapists?
Yes. Covered family members enrolled in Tricare Prime or Select can schedule with us directly. We see adults ages 18 and older.
I’m a veteran. Can I see one of your therapists through the VA?
Yes. We work with veterans through VA Community Care referrals and direct VA insurance coverage where applicable. You will need a referral. Reach out and we’ll walk you through what your specific situation requires.
I’m stationed at JBLM. Can I see you?
Absolutely. We serve clients across all of Washington, including JBLM, DuPont, Lakewood, Tacoma, Olympia, and the surrounding Pierce and Thurston County communities. Since we’re telehealth-only, you can attend sessions from base housing, off-base housing, or anywhere with a private space and an internet connection.
Will my command find out I’m in therapy?
This is a common and completely understandable concern. When insurance is billed, an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is typically sent to the policyholder. The EOB may show that a mental health claim was processed, but typically not the details of what was discussed. We’re happy to talk through your privacy options before you schedule.
What happens if I PCS out of Washington mid-treatment?
Our therapists are licensed in Washington only, so we can’t continue treatment after you move out of state. We’ll work with you on a transition plan and help connect you with a Tricare-friendly provider in your new location.
