Once the referral is authorized, the patient can book their intake using the link on this page. Military spouses and family members enrolled in Tricare Select do not require a PCM referral and can self-schedule directly.

What is the process for making a behavioral health referral for my patient?
Referring a patient to Lakewood Child and Family Counseling requires no paperwork on your end. Share the Book Now link with your patient or complete the booking on their behalf directly from this page. No prior authorization is required for most plans. Your patient completes a brief intake form online, selects a time, and meets their licensed therapist by secure telehealth video for their first 53 minute session. For Tricare Prime patients, submit your referral through the standard Tricare process before your patient schedules. All other patients can book directly without a referral.
Can I schedule a behavioral health intake on behalf of my patient?
Yes. Use the Book Now button on this page to complete a warm handoff referral while your patient is in your office. The patient receives a confirmation and intake form via email immediately after booking. Please confirm you have entered their correct email address before submitting.
Do you provide adult behavioral health services only?
Yes. Lakewood Child and Family Counseling provides outpatient behavioral health and mental health counseling exclusively for adults ages 18 and older. We do not provide services for children, adolescents, or teens. We do work with parents of children experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges through our EFFT parent therapy approach. Read more about that work here.
How do I find an outpatient behavioral health provider accepting patients in Pierce County?
Lakewood Child and Family Counseling is based in Lakewood, Washington and accepts behavioral health referrals for adult patients throughout Pierce County, including Tacoma, Puyallup, University Place, Gig Harbor, Spanaway, Steilacoom, Bonney Lake, Port Orchard, and JBLM area communities. All care is delivered via secure telehealth so patients do not need to travel to a physical office. Same week availability is common. How do I find a behavioral health provider accepting referrals across Washington State?
Lakewood Child and Family Counseling has licensed therapists with current openings for adult patients statewide. Because all sessions are delivered via telehealth, availability is not limited by geography. We are accepting new referrals in Tacoma, Bellevue, Seattle, Olympia, Spokane, Yakima, Bremerton, and throughout western and eastern Washington. Same week intake appointments are frequently available.
Do you coordinate care with referring providers?
With appropriate written consent from the patient, we can coordinate with primary care providers, case managers, discharge planners, and other referring providers as clinically indicated. Please contact us through the website contact form for care coordination requests.
What if my patient’s insurance is not listed?
Patients whose insurance is not listed may still receive services through private pay. We accept HSA and FSA cards. Patients can also contact us to verify out of network benefits with their individual plan before scheduling.
Do your therapists prescribe medication?
No. Our licensed mental health counselors provide outpatient talk therapy and behavioral health counseling only. For patients who need both therapy and medication management, we are glad to serve as the therapy provider in a coordinated care model while you or another prescribing provider manage medication separately.
Do you accept urgent behavioral health referrals?
We do not offer crisis or emergency behavioral health services. For patients in acute crisis, please contact 988 or direct them to the nearest emergency department. For patients who need prompt but not emergency level behavioral health support, same week telehealth intakes are frequently available. Check current availability using the Book Now button at the top of this page.
Where can I refer a patient for behavioral health services in King County or Snohomish County?
Lakewood Child and Family Counseling accepts outpatient behavioral health referrals for adult patients throughout King County and Snohomish County. King County has the highest median household income in Washington State at over $116,000, and while general mental health providers exist in the Seattle metro area, specialty gaps in EFFT, trauma-informed therapy, ADHD, and neurodivergent support remain significant. We serve adults in Seattle, Bellevue, Mercer Island, Sammamish, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton, Kent, Federal Way, Everett, Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Edmonds, and surrounding communities. All services are delivered via secure telehealth with current availability and same week intake appointments frequently available.
Where can I refer a patient for outpatient behavioral health services in eastern Washington?
Eastern Washington has some of the most significant mental health provider shortages in the state. Multiple eastern Washington counties including Yakima, Okanogan, Adams, Columbia, Garfield, and Ferry carry federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) status, meaning residents may travel significant distances or go without specialty behavioral health care entirely. Lakewood Child and Family Counseling serves adult patients throughout eastern Washington including Spokane, Spokane Valley, Yakima, Kennewick, Richland, Pasco, Walla Walla, Wenatchee, and surrounding communities via secure telehealth, removing the geographic barriers that prevent access to specialty care in rural and underserved areas. We are accepting new referrals now with same week availability.
Where can I find a behavioral health provider for patients in Thurston County, Kitsap County, or Clark County?
We serve adult patients in Thurston County including Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater, where median household income ranks among the top six in Washington State. Kitsap County patients including those in Bremerton, Port Orchard, Silverdale, and Bainbridge Island frequently benefit from telehealth services given the geographic ferry barrier to Seattle-based providers, and the presence of Naval Base Kitsap means significant Tricare-covered behavioral health need in the region. Clark County including Vancouver WA, Camas, and Washougal has a growing suburban population with increasing demand for specialty behavioral health services that local capacity has not kept pace with. All sessions are delivered via secure telehealth with same week availability frequently possible.
Where can I refer a patient with Regence or Premera insurance for behavioral health therapy in Washington State?
Lakewood Child and Family Counseling is in network with both Regence BlueCross BlueShield and Premera Blue Cross for outpatient behavioral health services across Washington State. Both plans cover telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person care under Washington State mental health parity law, and patients with either plan can book directly without prior authorization for most covered outpatient services. We can typically schedule a first telehealth intake within the same week. Use the Book Now button on this page to refer directly.
Where can I refer a military patient with Tricare or VA benefits for mental health counseling in Washington State?
We are in network with Tricare Select, Tricare Prime, and the VA Community Care Network for outpatient behavioral health therapy in Washington State, serving military patients at JBLM, Naval Base Kitsap, and throughout Washington. Tricare Select patients do not require a PCM referral and can self-schedule directly. Tricare Prime patients require a PCM referral before scheduling. VA patients need authorization from the VA before their first appointment. Once authorized, all patients can book their first telehealth intake using the Book Now button on this page.
